Google Play Feature Graphic Size Guide
Everything about the 1024 × 500 Google Play feature graphic: the exact size and format, where it appears and how to design one that works on every screen.
3 min read
The feature graphic is the wide banner at the top of your Google Play listing. Play Console asks for one on your main store listing, and it is one of the few places where you control a large, eye-catching image. Here is what you need to know.
Feature graphic size and format
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 1024 × 500 px |
| Format | JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha channel) |
| File size | Up to 15 MB |
The size is fixed: Play Console won't accept a feature graphic that isn't exactly 1024 × 500 pixels. A common mistake is exporting a PNG with transparency. Even if the image looks opaque, an alpha channel can cause the upload to fail, so export a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG.
Where the feature graphic appears
Google Play shows the feature graphic in several places. It can appear at the top of your store listing, and when you add a promo video, it is used as the video's cover image. Google also uses it when your app is promoted in the store.
Because it appears in different layouts and on different screen sizes, the image can be scaled and cropped. Design with that in mind.
Design tips
- Keep important content in the center. Leave some space around the edges so nothing important is cut off when the image is cropped.
- Use few words. Your app name and one short message are enough. Long sentences become unreadable on phones.
- Make text large and high-contrast. The banner is often shown much smaller than 1024 px wide.
- Show your app or your brand. Your app icon, a screenshot on a colored background or a simple illustration all work well.
- Stay honest. Don't add store badges, rankings, "#1" or price claims. Google Play's metadata policy doesn't allow misleading or promotional text in store graphics.
- Match your screenshots. Using the same colors and fonts makes your listing look polished.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Wrong size, e.g. 1024 × 512 | Export at exactly 1024 × 500 |
| PNG with transparency | Export a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG without alpha |
| Text too close to the edges | Move text toward the center |
| Tiny text | Use at least 48 px for your headline |
| Busy background | Use a solid color or a soft gradient |
Create a feature graphic in a few minutes
- Open the Feature Graphic Maker. The canvas is always 1024 × 500.
- Choose a template, for example App Showcase.
- Upload your app icon. If you only have a large version, create the right sizes first with the App Icon Resizer.
- Upload a screenshot, write your title and subtitle, and drag everything into place.
- Export the PNG. It is saved as a 24-bit PNG without transparency, ready for Play Console.
Need a background that matches your brand? Build one in the Gradient Generator and use the same colors in the feature graphic.
Google occasionally changes how the feature graphic is displayed. Check the Play Console Help Center for the latest guidance.
